Still only in its second year, the Burke Freestyle team has been making waves here at Burke and all across VT and NH. As February draws to an end the snow has been stacking up, the terrain parks are immaculate, and the athletes have been pushing themselves and are in their prime.
Everyone on the team has had a successful season so far, from landing their first box to spinning the biggest jumps in the park. We recently had a few athletes compete in USASA Northern VT slopestyle and halfpipe competitions all across the state. Last weekend Elias went huge at Sugarbush, spinning 360s and stomping boxes and wallrides. Nick and Ryan both threw down with some big spins and rails on the challenging course. Sunday it was off to Stowe for a superpipe competition. Nick threw some huge grabs, alley-oops, alley-oop 360s, and switch 180s to earn a 2nd place podium finish. Ryan stomped some technical lines including a switch drop, big 360s, various grabs, and switch spins to clinch the 1st place spot.
We just received notice that all of our athletes who competed in USASA events made nationals for slopestyle and some halfpipe as well. So April 6-9 we will be heading to Copper Mountain CO to compete and represent Burke. Some of our athletes earned spots within the top 20 in the country for their age group.
We still have another round of competitions coming up so wish us luck.
We will be skiing all the way through March, enjoying the sunny spring snow and mild temperatures. Keep an eye out for us in the terrain parks and come say hi. Don't forget to sign up for Burke Freestyle and come ski with us next year!
