Conservation Collaboratives and Kingdom Trails first organized the CircumBurke in 2009 to promote the idea of a bikeable route around Burke Mountain through Victory and to remember Dave Blumenthal, a Vermont adventure biker and trail advocate, who died in Colorado while competing in the Tour Divide.

The event has increased in popularity each year, as we add more quality singletrack to the route, making it more challenging yet more fun.  Trail runners and bikers alike have embraced the event, because it is a great opportunity to race through a wild corner of the northeast kingdom primarily on singletrack. In 2014, 2015 and 2016, the CircumBurke was voted “Best Bicycle Race in Vermont” by Vermont Sports readers. Very few sections of dirt road or cart trail are used on the course.  The trail runners and two lap “CircumBerzerk” bikers begin the challenge at 8:00 AM, in order to have completed most of the fast singletrack sections in Victory before the main wave of bikers comes through after a 10 AM start.
