VSC Throwdown!

This years VSC throwdown was a blast. Only Castleton was able to come and compete against Lyndon but it was fun none the less. The competition was in jam format, each team had an hour and a half to hot lap Dashney Mile and the judges made notes on outstanding tricks by both teams. After that the teams took a break in the base lodge and winners were announced. The one skier from Johnson took home a Dakine backpack complements of East Burke Sports for standing out doing multiple swaps on the box and rails, rodeo japan 540 and rodeo 720. Not to mention a mean spread eagle 360. Local Lyndon State freshman took home a t-shirt compliments of Village Sport as well as a new FACE face mask. A guy and girl from castleton took home awards from FACE as well. The whole competition after both teams throwing down was decided went to Castleton. Lyndon was killing it as well though, Tom Leeman got multiple 720’s as well as almost stomping a 900. One Lyndon skier after not skiing all year due to injury was throwing K-Fed’s on the down rail and DFD as well as switch lip onto the DFD and 270 disaster on the box. In the end fun has had by all and everyone enjoyed a little bbq. Good job to all the competitors thanks for coming out and we’ll see you next season!

2nd Annual VSC Throwdown, Friday, March 19.

Everyone needs to come check out the second annual VSC throwdown this friday in the dashney mile terrain park.  Teams of skiers and riders will be assembled from Vermont State College schools, Lyndon State (defending champs), Castleton State, and Johnson State.  This contest is unique from all others at Burke because it is the only freestyle contest held here that involves team scoring.  Team riders must be enrolled at their college and compete for the rght to represent their school.  The level of riding at this contest is always very high and undoubtedly will be again this year.  Teams will have a chance to warm up on the course which has been changed around during the practice section which will take place in the morning.  The contest will happen sometime in the afternoon.  Be sure to come check it out, it’s going to be a very fun day.

2010 Burke Mountain Slope Style Results

Unfortunatly the sunshine did not hold out for the slopestyle event this year.  However with south of us getting inches upon inches of rain we were lucky to miss the brunt of the storm and had a fun day in Dashney Mile.  Steez magazine came out to watch the event which took place in Dashney Mile from the top rails, through the jump through the wall ride, over the rainbow rail and into the flat down to the butter box.  There was a good turnout and a good level of riding for both skiers and snowboarders.  Burke Mountain local snowboarder Alex Montgomery took third with an impressive showing in the rail section.  Second went to Lyndon State student Matty Roache who had some bad luck falling hard after clearing most of the landing on the first jump trying his signature “roach-e-o”.  In the end he was able to put together a solid run all around which locked him second.  The winning run went to another Lyndon State student, Taylor Craft.  Taylor slayed the rails while throwing a smooth monster 720 tail grab.  Skiers showed up ready to go as well.  Burke Mountain local Billy Cashin came in third with a nice 720 over the first jump and a good showing throughout the whole rail section.  Second place went to Burke contest podium regular Sammy Miles who has made the top three in every contest he has entered so far this season.  In first was Luc Hagearty who had time to throw a huge 540 while putting on a clinic through the rail sections.  In the end it got him a new pair of rossignol skis for the win.  Everyone seemed to have a great time at this years slopestyle and we look forward to seeing how far everyone has progressed at next years contest.

2010 Burke Mountain Big Air Results

Their was a great turnout of riders and spectators at this years big air which stepped up last years.  Everyone showcased what they had learned this season and apparantly everyone learned alot.  Riders had three runs to throw their best tricks.  Three skiers and three snowboarders then competed in a final round, with the best trick winning it.  Former Big Air winner and local Tyler huntoon came in third for the snowboarders, falling on a huge rodeo 7.  Second place went to Cyrus Bridwell who stomped a monster indy 720.  The winning trick went to Vermont local Ryan Hryckiewicz, who threw an impressive mute 1080.  The skiers were hucking also with Burke local Sammy Miles taking third with a stylish double grab 540.  The skier final came down to a nailbiting finish between Lyndon State local Phil Curl and youngster Hunter Tyrell.  Finalists were given two attempts to throw their best tricks and both contestants fell on their first attempt.  On the last run Phil dropped in switch and stomped a switch mute 1080.  When it looked like he had it in the bag Hunter came out of no where and landed a huge rodeo 900.  The judges had their work cut out for them but in the end 1080’s won both the snowboarding and skiing sections.  The results ended up Phil Curl in first,  Hunter Tyrell in second, and Sammy Miles in third.
