total solar eclipse - closing day
On April 8th, 2024, Burke Mountain is in position for "100% totality" during the solar eclipse. This will be the last time the Mid Burke Express is spinning for the winter season, so join us as we watch this once in a lifetime view.
WHAT IS A SOLAR ECLIPSE?
A solar eclipse happens when, at just the right moment, the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT?
During a total solar eclipse the Moon completely blocks the Sun’s light for a few minutes. It gets so dark that it can look like night time. In an effort to keep all skiers and riders safe, we will be pausing lift operations during the eclipse. Last chair is at 3pm and we will be reloading lifts at 3:40pm. The Mid-Burke Express and Sherburne Express will then run until 5pm. Foot passengers will not be allowed on the lift.
WHERE CAN I PARK?
For those skiing and riding, we will have parking available at the Sherburne Base Lodge only. Parking will be first come first serve and is $5/car or FREE for 23.24 or 24.25 Winter Passholders. Parking at Mid-Burke and the Hotel is reserved for Hotel guests and those who are not planning on skiing or riding. We will have limited shuttle services available.
WHERE CAN I WATCH THE ECLIPSE?
The eclipse will be visible from many spots around the resort; if you're looking to watch the eclipse on-mountain we will have a designated viewing spot at the Summit (for skiers and riders only). We will also be partying it up on the Hotel Patio with Nix Mix DJ from 2pm-4pm.
HOW MUCH ARE LIFT TICKETS?
Lift tickets will be $50 and include access to the Eclipse Party on the Hotel Patio.
HOW MUCH ARE ECLIPSE PARTY TICKETS?
Eclipse party access is included with your $50 day ticket, and FREE for 23/24 or 24/25 Winter Passholders. For those wishing to attend the party only (no skiing or riding) admission is $5/person.
CAN I LOOK DIRECTLY AT THE ECLIPSE?
NO! Eye safety during a total solar eclipse is imperative. You cannot use your plain sunglasses or goggles as eye protection during this time. Learn more about eye safety during an eclipse from our friends at NASA here. We will have a limited amount of glasses for sale with our Eclipse Lift Ticket ($50) and in our retail outlets ($5). If you have your own glasses, you should bring them.
WHERE CAN I GET FOOD AND DRINKS?
Kingdom Cafeteria at the Sherburne Base Lodge will be OPEN and offering a variety of drinks and limited grab and go items. There will be no hot food for purchase at this location.
The View Pub in the Hotel will be OPEN and having regular service.
We can't believe another season is coming to an end, thank you for a great winter!
