Ability Level Placement
Red (ages 5 - 12)
First timers learn about equipment, balance, moving, stopping, and turning.
J-Bar Green (ages 5 - 12)
Skiers and riders with equipment knowledge, can stop, and have started linking multiple turns using a wedge to control speed and turn shape.
Sherburne Green (ages 5 - 12)
Skiers and riders are successfully linking turns. Skiers are making parallel turns about 80% of the time, and will improve on posture, be introduced to steep terrain and pole plants. Riders can transition between both toe and heel edges and will be introduced to switch riding.
Blue (ages 5 - 12)
Skiers and riders are successfully linking parallel turns and pole planting (skiers). They will improve on edging with more carved turns, will explore all blue terrain, and be introduced to bumps and ungroomed terrain.
Black (ages 5 - 12)
Skiers and riders have full knowledge of the mountain and are capable of skiing/riding bumps and trees. Skiers and riders will be introduced to more dynamic and variable turns.
Freestyle Development (ages 6-12)
Requirements: Proficient on Blue-level terrain; helmet
This group will work on developing core skills and be introduced to freestyle terrain, with a focus on fun and safety. Athletes will start small and work their way up to larger features.
Teen All-Mountain Skiers (ages 13-16)
Burke Mountain has great terrain, fabulous racing pedigree, challenging woods, and natural features. Your child will have the benefit of experiencing this in a group focused on safety, fun, and social interaction.
